Description
The AECOM Sydney Office Project delivered by Greenpoint was centred on the alterations to the atrium on Levels 21 to 23 of the 420 George Street Building. The works were adjacent to the main reception area, meeting rooms and hundreds of work stations and therefore, were undertaken between 6pm and 6am and on weekends in a restricted ‘live’ environment.
The project incorporated two separable portions: the atrium infill works on Level 23; and the associated works on Levels 21 and 22.
The challenge for Greenpoint was to complete the works on Level 23 in 18 calendar days, providing AECOM the opportunity to handback the entire Level 23 floor area to the Building Manager and therefore make a significant saving on leasing cost.
Level 23 works included the infill of a large atrium void area. These works required the atrium of 10.8 metres in height to be reduced to 7.2 metres and the associated building services, workstation relocation and finishes in the very challenging timeframe of 18 days with only a 3 day lead in period.
The sensitive works included the careful removal of the “thumb print” artwork that was over 10 metres in height (handed back to AECOM) and the meticulous removal of the interconnecting metal and natural timber stairs between Levels 22 and 23.
Greenpoint collaborated with JLL (Building Managers), Davis Langdon (Project Managers) and AECOM Facilities Management to deliver the first stage of the project ahead of schedule.
The second stage of the project (on levels 21 and 22) included the new atrium feature ceiling, alterations to building services, decorative finishes, relocation of furniture and artwork to the reception area on level 21. The second stage was also completed ahead of schedule.
This project is another excellent example of a successful delivery by Greenpoint of a CBD Workplace Interiors Project in a ‘live’, operational and restrictive environment.
